Barbara "Barb" Lemonds, age 78, passed away on January 24, 2023 at home. Services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, January 27, 2023 at the Adventure Christian Community Church. The family will greet friends from 10:00 – 11:00 am at the church. Burial will follow at the Rock Island National Cemetery.
Barb (AKA Boobah) was born on January 2, 1945 in Nevinville, Iowa, to Rex and Madge Chandler. She married Don Lemonds on November 28, 1964, at the Little Brown Church in Nashau, Iowa. She worked at the Vernon Company in Newton, Iowa, before moving to the Quad Cities in 1976 when she was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal from 1977 to 2010 as an Inventory Management Specialist.
Her favorite pass times included being with her grandchildren and watching their sporting events. Her favorite musical group was the Statler Brothers and she usually had their music playing in the background at home or in the car. She was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and NASCAR. Her favorite drivers were Darrell Waltrip, Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt, Sr., Dale Earnhardt, Jr., and Kevin Harvick. She would watch every race she that could and did not want to leave the house when they were on.
Later in life, Barb became an active member of the Adventure Christian Community Church. Her spiritual gift was giving. Many friends and family could attest to this, as she would be the first to volunteer when help was needed or an emergency came up. She enjoyed Pastor Tony's series, the bands and signers, and especially loved the group that would sing on Sunday. She volunteered for many things at the church including serving meals and cleaning.
Barb is survived by her son Dave Lemonds, Hardin, Missouri, and daughter Julie (Jason) Parrett, Bettendorf, Iowa; her grandchildren Matthew, Abby, Ethan, Jake, and Eli; great grandchildren, Cooper and Callie; and sister-in-law, Janet and Arlene Lemonds, Des Moines, Iowa. Through the gift of her children marrying, there were many others she called grandchildren and she loved them as if they were her own flesh and blood. She is also survived by many wonderful close friends and family members both near and far.
She is preceded in death by her husband, mother, father, two brothers, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and one niece.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Adventure Christian Community Church.
