Barbara Ann Epping was born on February 20, 1932, in Davenport, a daughter of George and Margaret (Klein) Epping. She attended Davenport High School. Barb married Lester Dickinson in June of 1948 and from this union shared five children.

Barb was an incredible mother to her five children and was especially devoted to her son, Patrick, who had special needs and brought unconditional love and joy to the entire family. Barb enjoyed trips to the casino to play the slot machines, reading, playing cards, and solving the daily cryptoquote. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and especially loved the tradition of the Hawkeye Wave. A breast cancer survivor for 51 years and eight months, Barb faced five different cancers throughout her 94 years with remarkable strength and resilience.

Those left to honor Barb’s memory are her children: Michelle (Don) Broyles, Davenport, Jeff (Tami) Dickinson, Eldridge, Debra Dickinson, Davenport, and Rebecca (Greg) Fisk, Ft. Worth, Texas; many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Brenda Epping, North Carolina; nephew, Dennis Nelson; niece, Laurie Nelson, both of Davenport.

Barb was preceded in death by her son, Patrick, her parents, siblings, Doug Epping and Lola (Vic) Nelson, her beloved aunt, Lucille Epping, and nephews, Jay and Russ Nelson. May they all rest in God’s eternal peace.

The Dickinson family would like to thank Dr. Susannah Friemel and the entire staff at the Iowa Cancer Specialists, Dr. Mary Campbell, Dr. Gregg Corrigan, and Dr. Siv Brit Saetre for all of the compassionate and loving care they gave to Barb.
