Annie Cook

August 12, 1944 — February 11, 2022

Annie Lee Cook was born August 12, 1944 in Ruleville, MS to Elnora and Ruben McGowan. Both whom preceded her in death. Annie grew up in Drew, MS where she completed her schooling.

Annie decided to migrate north to give her and her children a better opportunity of living. She settled on the south side of Chicago, IL, where she raised her children. In Chicago, Annie worked as a school bus driver.

In 1991 she decided to move to Davenport, IA. Settling down in Davenport, Annie made a living as a Laundry Aid. Annie later retired and helped raise some her grandchildren. Not only did she provide a healthy and happy home to her grandchildren, but to anyone that needed a hot meal or a warm bed. Annie was truly a great cook! She was best known for her homemade biscuits and syrup!

Grieve stricken, Annie decided on February 11, 2022 that it was time for her to head to her forever home in Heaven with her sister Ruby McGowan, whom precedes her in death. Annie also has 5 other, loved siblings whom preceded her in death, Sylvia Barry, Ruben McGowan, Gloria McGowan, Robert McGowan, and Gloria McGowan.

Annie leaves in mourning, her 6 siblings Albert (Sara) McGowan, John McGowan, Ricky McGowan, Thelma McGowan, Gussie (Sammie) Johnson, and Rose McGowan. Her 6 children Edward Ann (Olmedo) Clarke, Albert Earl (Deanna) Miller, Charles Miller, Marvin (Phyllis) Miller, Lorenzo (Christie) Cook, Shavonta (Tamara) Miller. Her grandchildren Terry, Alexis, Darryl, Derrick,  Shakuna, Lakendra, Hollis , Ailean, Charles, Alecia, Charles, Sajvaris, Meashi,  D’Angelo, Dashauna, Quasonna, D’Marco, Marvin, D’Mario, Dashante’, Charlene, Tricillia, Bianca,  Lorenzo,  Marquise, Jawuan, Kendra, Krishawna, Kelby, Kimya, Kaylo, and Ketrelle.   A host of great grand children, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Annie will be truly missed by many.

Cry not for me because we know worldly possessions don’t last forever. I may no longer be with you in body, but I’m forever with you through heart and spirit. Cry not for me, for I am with the Lord! -Annie
