Anne M. Jochum

Anne Margaret Jochum said her final goodbye on Friday, September 8, 2023, at the age of 73.

Born on December 29, 1949, in Clinton, IA to Wayne and Geraldine (Losey) Keel, Anne was a kind, thoughtful, and artistic child. 

She graduated from the University of Northern Iowa and Marycrest College, where she earned a BA in Education with an Art Emphasis and an MA in Special Education, respectively.

Anne met her husband James “Jim” Jochum in the first grade and they attended school together all through high school. They reconnected years later, married in August of 1979, and spent the next 44 years together. Together they had one child: Katherine “Kate”. 

Anne was a dedicated teacher for 34 years and taught countless students from 1st-9th grade. Due to her compassion for teaching, she was a recipient of both a "Golden Apple" and a "Hug Award".

After retiring from the Davenport School District in 2006, she spent much of her time painting, reading, traveling, and visiting Iowa City to shop (and also to visit her daughter).  She enjoyed volunteering and regularly lent her expertise and eye for detail to many local organizations including the Davenport Area Retired School Personnel Association (DARSPA), the Mississippi Valley Blood Regional Blood Center, and the Rock Island Museum and Historical Society. 

But Anne may be remembered most by her hand painted cards, which she delighted in creating and sending to family and friends. She took time to paint every day, always inspired by the world around her. 

Anne is survived by her husband, daughter Kate (Zach) Noonan and grandson Theo, brothers Tom (Connie) Keel and Jim Keel, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and in-laws. 

Always a generous and giving person in life, so will she be in death, as Anne chose to have her body donated to the University of Iowa Hospitals and College of Medicine for research and study, and she will be buried in Iowa City.  A celebration of life for Anne will be held at Noon on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bettendorf, IA. 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, Dementia Society of America, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bettendorf, Rock Island Arsenal Historical Society, or, most importantly to Anne, be a good person for the world.
