Andy Olson

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Andy Olson, 46, of Davenport, will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.  The service will be livestreamed with the link appearing at the bottom of this page 15 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island with military honors. Visitation will be held from 10 until 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the family to establish an educational fund for Andy and Sheri’s daughter, Evy.

Andrew Joseph Olson was born on April 21, 1977 in Rockford, Illinois, a son of Gordon A. and Peggy A. (Stenzel) Olson.  He proudly served in the Navy as a sonar technician serving aboard destroyers and guided missile cruisers, specifically the San Jacinto.  Andy’s career in the Navy spanned from 1999 until 2008. 

Andy was united in marriage to Sheri Brown on August 18, 2011 in Davenport.  

Andy worked in many capacities at the Rock Island Arsenal, but the job he took most pride in was a caretaker at the National Cemetery.

Andy loved his family, spending many hours talking on the phone.  Being a father to Evy was a gift that he never took for granted.  He enjoyed gardening, playing golf, and putting lego sets together, especially Star Wars collections.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sheri, daughter, Evelyn, both of Davenport, parents, Gordon and Peggy Olson, Fulton, Illinois; brothers, Jesse (Heather) Olson, Michael and Brian Olson, both of Clinton, Iowa, nephews and nieces, Caesar, Elizabeth, Emma, and Gideon; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Corinne and Larry Brown, Davenport; grandmother, Donna Smith, Lady Lake, Florida; and a special aunt, Kay Stitzel, Tucson, Arizona.

Andy was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Victoria Brown, grandfather, Eugene Smith, great-grandfather, Art Moring, and uncles, Steve Stenzel and Alan Olson.
