Alma Bertina Avalos Varela

Alma Bertina Avalos Varela, 39, of Davenport, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City.  A memorial Mass to celebrate her life will be held at 10am on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Davenport.  Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, assisted the family.

Alma was born September 5, 1984, in Mexico, a daughter of Benjamin and Alicia (Varela) Avalos.

Alma’s hobbies included listening to music, dancing with her family, and spending time with her daughters.  Alma was a loving mother, aunt, and sister. Alma was a strong, free spirit, who enjoyed living her life to the fullest. She will forever be loved and remembered for her eclectic personality and her amazing sense of humor. 

Those left to honor her memory include her life partner Marc Fye; daughters Kylee Fye, Kaitlyn Fye, Khloe Fye, Kristina Fye; mother Alicia Avalos; all of Davenport; father Benjamin Avalos of Harlingen, TX; sisters Maria (Jose) Ayala of Monmouth, IL, and Sandra Avalos of Davenport.

She was preceded in death by her brother David Avalos in 2020.
