Alberta Munden

Alberta Munden, 91, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at her home.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport.  Visitation will be 12:30-2:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Alberta was born December 5, 1930 in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Otis and Lucille (Stanton) Bales.  She married John Munden, October 31, 1948 in Davenport, Iowa.  They were married for 67 years.

Early in life she worked as a cashier for HyVee and later she managed the claims department at Sieg Auto Company.

Alberta “Bert” or more affectionately “Grandma Moose” was an avid gardener, seamstress, camper, and fisherwoman.  Her no nonsense work ethic was tempered by lifelong acts of kindness, compassion, and sharing of baked goods.  She enjoyed a good french silk pie, hot cup of coffee, and a riveting Hawkeye basketball game.   Her greatest joys were her faith in God and her family.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, DeAnna (Chester) Shaffer of Davenport; grandchildren, Jeremy (Dawn) Munden of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Dan (Katy) Munden of San Antonio, Texas, Erin (Ryan) Proksch of Davenport, Iowa, and Samuel (Jodi) Shaffer of Shell Rock, Iowa; great grandchildren, Luke, Abi, and James Munden and Liza, Margo, and Hazel Shaffer.

She was preceded in death by her husband John Munden, son, Paul Munden, and daughter-in-law, Donna Munden.
