There will be additional visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home. Greg died suddenly and unexpectedly Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Trinity, Moline.
Gregory John Saskowski was born on December 10, 1962, a son of Robert N. and Eleanor M. “Ellen” (Szalko) Saskowski. He attended the University of Iowa and St. Ambrose University. At Iowa, he participated in the marching band, and was able to play at the Rose Bowl in 1981.
Greg went to work for Avis Car Rental in 1985 and spent 27 years with the Avis/Budget Group. He currently was working as a Regional Manager. Greg had a tremendous work ethic, sometimes working 80 hours a week.
He had a brilliant mind and learned to speak Polish, French, Spanish, and German. This came in handy with his profession as he was able to write programming in all these different languages and help customers whose native language wasn’t English.
Greg had a passion for classical music and driving, sometimes picking up and leaving without his family knowing. Once driving to Alaska and back before his family knew, and every year he was able to drive down to Phoenix to spend a few weeks.
Greg was a unique and generous soul. He was very loyal to his family, but also very competitive, not missing a chance to dominate in cards or board games.
Memorials may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Des Moines Chapter.
Greg is survived by his parents, Robert and Alexis Saskowski, Bettendorf; sister, Mary (Gary Moses) Jackson, Clive, Iowa; brothers, Randy (Sheri) Saskowski, Geneseo, IL, Dustin (Molly) Colvin, Parkville, MO, and Robert (Niki) Colvin, Gladstone, MO; nieces and nephews, Alana Jackson, Maksym Saskowski, Jacob Jensen, Chelsea Fender, Mikaela, Chloe, Patrick, Bradan, Colvin, Londyn, and Draivyn Colvin; and an extended loving family.
